How far in advance do I need to schedule?
Scheduling comes down to what you need from the photography job. For example, if you need an exterior of a building, taken at sunset for particular lighting, we need to work around the weather. What photographers call the "magic hour" at sunset actually only lasts about five minutes. Also, our typical response time is very quick. If you are ready for a shoot immediately, we will make sure one of our team will be too!
How many photographs do you take?
An unlimited amount as we photograph to meet the brief and expectations. The number of shots will be appropriate to the requirements of the shoot and we adapt to what’s needed. Porfyri Photography work efficiently but we always take enough so there is choice and variety of images without it taking too long.
How many photographs do we get?
You will receive every photo we take on the job so you can choose from the selection which photos you want to use. Unlike other photography companies, we allow our clients access to all files.
How does your pricing work?
Our pricing is time-based rather than per photo as we find this more cost effective for our clients. We have a minimum booking time of two hours and the client will receive all the photos taken during this time frame. If we do find that per product pricing is better for a particular job - we are flexible and can adapt to individual requests. There are no hidden costs - it is an upfront time based price that is quoted and then there is post production costs once images have been selected.
What are post production fees?
This is a small fee to which includes the professional colour correction of all digital images and minor editing. It also includes supply of all images in appropriate format and whatever delivery method is required.
Do I have to pay in advance? How are payments handled?
No, there is a seven day turnaround expectation around payment
Why do I need a professional photographer. Can’t I just use my own camera?
By booking a professional photographer, there is a guarantee of excellence as experience and expertise is an investment. Time saved by using a professional is value for money. Plus it is much more convenient as we are set up ready to shoot anywhere, anytime.
Who owns the photographs?
Generally the photography owns the photos but we release the copyrights for you and your business to use the images multiple times. In simple terms, the creator of the image holds the copyright. The use is then licensed to the purchaser or business. For example you need the dynamic exterior listed above for use on your web site and in a brochure. We "release" the copyright for you to use the image as described for as long as you need it. We retain the right to use the image for internal promotion and advertising. You are not free to sell the image but we can negotiate or arrange for any need you have.
Do we get every single photo that you take on the day?
Yes you do.
Do you shoot RAW or JPEG?
I shoot RAW because this will allow you to get the highest quality possible. RAW images can be provided but typically we send the final images as JPEGs.
Do you provide us with high resolution digital files of every photograph?
Yes.
Are you able to tailor a shoot/ quote to suit our exact needs?
Always.
How long after the shoot date should we expect to wait to get our photos?
Generally it’s the following day as we aim for a 24 hour turnaround. However, if there is urgency, we can meet that demand.
How do we book?
You can book by phone or email to receive confirmation that date and time is available.
What kind of camera do you use?
We are Canon people! 1DX
What sort of lighting do you use?
Bowens.
What software do you use primarily?
Adobe Photoshop Suite.
Do you store/archive the digital files?
Yes, every digital file/photograph we ever take is archived so we have a saved copy.
How much time should we allow for planning a shoot?
Planning is important for a successful outcome. There is no strict timeline but whatever preparation and planning you put in will definitely have an impact on the final outcome. We will always make the time to listen to your requirements and meet your brief. Specifically, planning time is relative to the complexity of the project. Obviously more time needed if it’s a challenging or large-scale shoot. If you want an outdoor shoot - you need to consider the weather and the lighting conditions plus traffic and travel needs to be factored in too.
What can I do to make the shoot more successful?
Use the photographer to your advantage. Preparation. Then trust and relax.
Do you have a studio?
Yes we do.
How long will the shoot take?
Depends on the brief. A set time frame is required as we charge in time, not images. But Andrew is very efficient and we can work to any time frame. Please be realistic, as it’s not possible to photograph a large project in 10 minutes. Also consider the pre and post shoot time as well. We can also come out the day before and shoot before an event if necessary.
Do I need to be there when the images are taken?
It depends on the brief - if it’s a simple job, we can turn up and photograph without any supervision or input. Please note though, it is important that the best people are there at the shoot or a detailed brief needs to be sent before the shoot. It’s always advantageous to be with us at the shoot if possible but as long as the brief is clear and expectations have been set, we can shoot with or without you present.
How far in advance do I need to schedule?
Obviously the more time in advance you book, the more likely we are to be able to give you your ideal time and date preference. We can be flexible as much as possible if last minute jobs come up. We work Monday -Saturday with late nights if required.
