Portrait Shoot – Mother & Son

“Not Bound By Time”

Who: Kate + Felix

What: Portrait Shoot (Mother/Son)

When: April 6, 2013

Where: Porfyri Studio

Kate and Felix share a beautiful bond, friends as well as mother and son, Felix gave his mum the gift of a session together before his marriage. What a thoughtful and special way to celebrate such a milestone in both their lives and we feel so lucky to be able to capture their love and laughter. The best thing is they came in for a shoot 7 years ago and so they have started a tradition that they can look back on. We’ve sneakily popped one of those past images in as well.

Q: Describe the shoot experience in 5 words?

Meaningful, Comfortable, Celebration of Love.

Q: What did it mean to you being able to capture these moments with your son?

It was a touching experience in that it was a passage to emotional independence in some way.

Q: Can you tell us about the relationship between you and Felix? You look really close.

Only child, single parent, we landed in Brisbane at the beginning of 1996 and neither of us have looked back. He is a fantastic young person. We are close but separate in all the best ways.

Q: How do you feel about him growing and getting married?

I love that he is where he is at — every stage of his life has been significant. He is resilient, resourceful, naughty and a lot of fun.

Q: I’ve heard that there was special significance about your watch. Can you tell us about that and the story behind it?

The watch is very special – designed  by Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe Torun Bülow-Hübe (1927-2004). Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe is the most internationally celebrated Swedish silversmith of the post war period. Using asymmetric, fluid forms in silver combined with semi-precious stones and pebbles, she created jewellery that strongly broke with tradition. Her early hand-made jewellery from the 1950’s became an instant success in Paris where she lived at the time. She earned clients such as Pablo Picasso, Brigitte Bardot, Ingrid Bergman and Billie Holiday, who all were fascinated by her innovative designs of sculptural forms tracing the contours of the wearer’s body. It is a watch  that is focused on the beauty of the moment. The bracelet is open-ended to show we do not need to feel bound by time.

Q: What is your favourite photo from the shoot and why?

One of my favourite shots is our hands and the watch — as  well as the ones of us laughing a lot.

Q: Would you recommend this to other mothers and sons?

I would unhesitatingly recommend Andrew and Anna they are professional, warm and very clever together. A brilliant partnership characterised by artistic excellence. Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
