Josh + Daniela – a moment on a balcony

Josh and Daniela faced what most couples dread  – thunderstorms on their wedding! But they decided not to let it affect their special day, stayed cool, calm and collected and let Andrew do his thing. The result is some beautifully-dramatic photography and captured candid moments.

We chatted to the couple about it all…

Describe your day in one sentence. A truly amazing day full of love, music and dancing with the most special people in our lives.

What was your favourite moment from the day? The entire day but if I had to pick it was when we were in the balcony at the front of the Tattersalls Club and Andrew was taking photos from another balcony – we were able to have alone time for the first time in the entire day and it was great. That is a moment we will always treasure.

The first thing you thought when you woke up was? I don’t think I even slept the night as I was too excited – but I remember checking my phone at 3am and thinking it is my wedding day!. For me (Josh), it was more the emotion of excitement and being able to see Dani for the first time walking down the isle.

The most surprising part was? The big entrance mother nature had prepared for us. A huge storm started just before the guests arrived and while the boys were in the church lightning struck it and we lost power for a little while. Thank goodness one guest was an electrician and able to restore power!

Would you change anything about the day? No, we are very glad that most activities were indoors given the weather on the day, and how could we ever want change anything when we were marrying the man/woman of our dreams.

Advice to other brides-to-be and grooms-to-be? Do not stress the little details, on the day just roll with the punches and just enjoy all the hard work you have done in preparation for the big day. Trust everything will go as planned and if it doesn’t don’t worry!

Was it everything you imagined it would be? It really was – having all your family and friends together celebrating with you is so truly special.

What were you feeling when you walked down the aisle? I was so emotional (excited, stress, happy and so in love)    I just could not wait to see Josh! Josh also walked down the aisle with his mum which was very special to us, as it is Colombian tradition from my heritage. It was also very special to Josh because we had delayed the wedding so that his mum could make a full recovery from breast cancer.

Tell us about the dress? Oh the dress, I tried what seemed a 100 dresses before I found ‘the one’. When I put it on, I was in love and I knew Josh would love it too. My wedding became so real – the day I found the dress at the Brides of Brisbane store. Nicola who served me was just amazing to deal with and very patient.

What do you think about the photographs that Andrew took? Did they capture the day? Andrew did a great job of capturing the day – we were so happy with his photos! Andrew was great and capturing candid and behind-the-scenes moments. As I mentioned before, there was a huge storm and lighting hit the church which made the power go out. One of our guest was an electrician and was able to fix the power before Dani arrived – Andrew was able to capture this moment in his photos which was great (we laughed so hard when we saw the photo). Watching the photos of the day made Dani cry as shed loved the work Andrew had done capturing our special day.

Do you have a favourite and why? It is so hard to say but again if I have to choice it will be the one on the balcony as we have such great memories of that moment.

Were you worried about the weather at all? When I was getting ready, the weather seemed fine so I was oblivious to it all. It was only when we were leaving that a massive storm came and all I could do was watch the storm go by. Knowing the Brisbane weather and that storms go as fast as they come – I was able to hold myself together and I just put all my trust on Andrew to capture some great shots – which he did!

Tell us about the Josh and Daniela love story. Josh and I meet on a university study trip in Turkey. Josh didn’t work up the courage to ask me out for another six months but when we began dating it was the happiest day. Four years later we got married and I could not imagine my life without him.

Are you similar or very different? We are very similar but at the same time extremely different. We have very different taste in food, fashion, travel and decorating which can make us challenge each other to try new or different things. But at the same time we share the same principles and values on family, friends and life in general which we both consider to be key to our strong relationship.

Best advice about love you’ve ever received and from whom? Learn how to agree to disagree and never go to bed angry.

Anything else you would like to share with us? Thanks to Andrew for capturing our perfect day!
