Marrying Your Best Friend

These two have so much love for each other, it was clear to see on their wedding day. Andrea put it perfectly when she said it was all about marrying your best friend. We chatted to the bride after the whirlwind of the day was over and asked her all about it…

Describe your day in one sentence.

A magical, beautiful and very emotional day that we will never forget.

What was your favourite moment from the day?

I would have to say it was seeing Steve’s face when I was walking down the aisle. Cliche I know, but he was very emotional so I laughed a little to stop him from sobbing! 🙂

The first thing you thought when you woke up was?

‘Thank god there is no rain’ and then I thanked my dad for the beautiful weather on the day and of course I thought ‘Today I get to marry my favourite person in the world’.

The most surprising part was?

How fast it goes and that I wasn’t as nervous as I thought I would be.

Would you change anything about the day?

Just that we wished it went for longer!

Advice to other brides-to-be?

Remember why you are getting married. It’s not a competition about who has what but it is the day you marry your best friend in front of God and your loved ones.

Was it everything you imagined it would be?

It was! It really was the best day ever!

What were you feeling when you walked down the aisle?

Slightly nervous but super excited – the church ceremony has always been my favourite part of a wedding day.

Tell us about the dress?

I had my dress made and designed by MXM Couture, the ladies are so creative. My dress had two components – I had a full skirt for the church as my mum always wanted to see me in a princess-style gown and then I removed the skirt for the reception which revealed a more form fitting dress. My veil was by far my favourite part! It had flowers running all the way down.

What do you think about the photographs that Andrew took? Did they capture the day?

Andrew’s work is always perfect, he really knows how to capture the emotion of the day in every shot.

Everyone said you two were just the happiest couple – tell us about your love story. How did you meet? When did you know he was your one?

We met in Melbourne of all places! We have both lived in Brisbane our whole lives but had never crossed paths. Ironically we met at Love Machine which is a club in Melbourne. We spoke for a few minutes and the went our separate ways, he added me on Facebook the next day and that was it – we spoke every single day from then on. Honestly I knew after our first date, we were so comfortable with each other and made each other laugh which for me is the best part of our relationship, we are always laughing and being silly!

How do you complement each other? Are you similar or very different?

I would say a bit of both. We are similar in the way that we are very traditional and place great importance on family. Our goals for life are the same, work hard, raise a family and live happily ever after 🙂 Although Steve stresses a lot and I am a more go-with-the-flow kind of person. We definitely balance each other out. We need each other to function! We love to laugh and watch Disney movies, so for us the most simple things are the best.

Best advice about love you’ve ever received and from whom?

I don’t know if anyone had really given us any advice. My mum always tells us to make sure we keep our relationship private, and to always be honest and to communicate.

You were very close to your dad but unfortunately he isn’t with us anymore. But you and Andrew still managed to incorporate him into the day in a different way – would you like to share about that?

We had placed a photo in the room where I was getting ready so that he was in the shots. I also got ready at my old house as the house holds a lot of special memories for me and my family. I was so happy we could be there for the day. Steve also prepared something special for me on the day as well. I always looked forward to the father/ daughter dance and as it wasn’t possible for me he surprised me and arranged for my Nouno (Godfather), my Uncles and my Godbrother to dance with me on the day which was very special and emotional.

And also, your father’s siblings were all there too and very emotional and protective around you. What do you think they were feeling?

Yes, they are always very protective and particularly on this day were very emotional. I think they were feeling very proud and wishing that my dad was there to share in the day.

Anything else you would like to share with us?

Just to make sure you keep it simple – the day is about a marriage not just a wedding.
